The Competition of Young Guslars of the Republic of Srpska brings together young performers who, through voice, gusle, and epic poetry, preserve one of the most recognizable features of folk heritage. As part of the Nevesinjska olimpijada, this event connects tradition, historical memory, and the young generations who continue to nurture guslar songs.
Young Guardians of the Gusle Tradition
The competition of young guslars from the Republic of Srpska is dedicated to preserving the gusle song, epic expression, and cultural heritage that has been passed down through generations via word, voice, and the sound of the gusle.

In this category, the youngest participants perform, showcasing their first serious steps in preserving the guslar tradition.

In this category, older young guslars perform, with a more developed expressive style, stage presence, and experience in performing traditional epic poetry.

Performance Rules and Judging
Participants perform 20 to 25 verses of an unrhymed folk song. They choose the song themselves, and the performance is judged by a professional jury of five members.
The judging encompasses several elements of the performance to evaluate the overall expression of the young guslar — from singing and playing the gusle to stage presence and adherence to traditional appearance.

Applications for the Competition of Young Guslars of the Republic of Srpska are made through the technical committee appointed by the Association of Guslars of the Republic of Srpska. Participants can apply until August 14, 2026, at 5:00 PM.The competition is intended for young guslars up to 18 years old, and performances take place in two age categories. Participants choose the song they perform.
